MVD Free Airport cleared by Ministry of Health to receive THC medical cannabis in transit

Several months after Uruguay’s issuance of the executive order that allows for the transit of medical cannabis containing THC throughout the Uruguayan territory, MVD Free Airport has been granted the pharmaceutical operator clearance required to operate under the new regulation.

This allows for MVD Free Airport to immediately commence the import license process on behalf of its clients for subsequent distribution to Brazil, Argentina and the rest of the region.

“We are very excited about commencing operations as soon as possible,” mentioned Max Lema, Head of Client Advisory at MVD Free Airport. “We are aware there are thousands of patients that depend on medical cannabis to better their everyday lives, and being able to play a role in the distribution of these products is a responsibility we take very seriously.”

Cargo will arrive in lots, with one import license provided to clients at origin, and one export permit from origin to Montevideo. Once the cargo is received, conditioning activities including the fractioning of the cargo, repackaging, stickering and invoice insertion amongst others can be performed at GDP compliant premises, being shipped directly to the patient.

“We expect to begin receiving shipments throughout these next couple of months, we understand this will be a game changer in medical cannabis distribution in the region. We are very excited to be a part of it,” concluded Lema.

MVD Free Airport is part of Corporación America, the parent Company that also manages the concessions of the Carrasco International Airport and Punta Del Este Airport in Uruguay, alongside over 50 airports and 10 cargo terminals in 10 countries across 3 continents.
