Leveraging its unique position as the only multimodal airport free zone in Latin America, LACC is currently setting up client fulfillment centers for the ecommerce industry, primarily targeting the larger regional markets of Brazil and Argentina.
The model is based on nearshoring inventory via sea routes and setting up pick-pack-ship operations on an end-of-runway basis, achieving same-day delivery to Brazil, Argentina and most major South American cities.
“This set up helps significantly to reduce fulfillment costs and lead times, being able to reach airports in Brazil and Argentina same-day. We have very competitive cut-off times, within minimum custom’s involvements for all outbound processes,” mentioned Noel Aguinaga, Head of Client Advisory at LACC. “Orders are placed until the night before shipment, pick-packing is performing in early hours of the morning and cargo is out bounded in the afternoon.”
Thus far, pilots have been successful and the client commitments to long-term operations have been manifest. LACC is currently performing phase 1 of its investment to ensure it has the necessary infrastructure to comply with the growing demands. During this phase over 2000m2 of storage and picking areas will become available.

In response to the growth of its pharmaceutical business unit and the integration of operations with greater complexity and sophistication, LACC has strengthened its management team to meet upcoming challenges.
LACC has successfully onboarded its new Quality Manager and Technical Director, Valeria Estrugo, who brings over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with the past 12 years at Merck KGaA, in various leadership roles, including international positions in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Excellence in Quality, and Quality Culture.
Karina Salles, the former Quality Assurance Manager, has taken on a new role as LACC’s Pharmaceutical Operations Manager. LACC has also welcomed three supply chain analysts with strong engineering backgrounds to assist with planning, reporting, and process automations.
Furthermore, given LACC’s ongoing IT system upgrades and the need for customized interfaces in engagements with global pharmaceutical players, LACC has appointed Agustina Parrilla as Head of Project Management and Engineering.

Due to the lingering logistics complexities resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic and the global trend among the global pharmaceutical players to reduce the capillarity present in their historic distribution models, LACC has been seeing an increased demand for distribution to smaller markets in the region.
Reaching countries like Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile, among others, poses several challenges for global players due to connectivity constraints and reduced volumes. Meeting minimum purchase order requirements may lead to inefficiencies, maintaining local inventory increases working capital. Furthermore, security concerns arise due to the lack of adequate infrastructure at these destinations.
LACC is currently collaborating with a select group of pharmaceutical shippers who optimize purchase orders for multiple markets, centralizing the long-hauls transportation to LACC. Inventory is stored at LACC, and minor customizations are performed when necessary, with cargo shipped to destinations on an as-needed basis.
This approach has enabled companies to reduce working capital, optimize long-haul logistics by consolidating multiple destinations in single shipments, and allocate stock more efficiently by keeping inventory bonded and nearshore to the destination markets.
LACC is proactively planning for future infrastructure and capabilities, as the concept of regional distribution appears to be a global trend in emerging markets worldwide.
